Freedom from Fibroids
( 1 items )
In additional to my new line of SACRED WOMB HEALTH PLAN herbs and formulas coming out soon, please make use of this valuable additional information that I found online:
Otherwise known
as myoma of the uterus, uterine fibroid tumors ( myomas ) are the most
common growth of the female genital tract. They are round, firm, benign
(i.e. noncancerous) lumps of the muscular wall of the uterus, composed
of smooth muscle and connective tissue, and are rarely solitary.
Usually as small as a hen's egg, they commonly grow gradually to the
size of an orange or grapefruit. The largest uterine fibroid tumor (
myoma ) on record weighed over 100 pounds. They often cause or are
coincidental with heavier periods, irregular bleeding, and/or painful
periods.
Uterine fibroid tumors ( myomas ) are also one of the most
common reasons that women in their thirties
and forties have a hysterectomy. Some particularly skillful surgeons are capable of removing only the uterine fibroid
tumor ( myoma ), leaving the uterus intact, but they are the exception.
Uterine fibroid tumors ( myomas ), like breast fibrocysts,
are a product of estrogen dominance (too much estrogen). Estrogen stimulates their growth, and lack of estrogen
causes them to atrophy. Estrogen dominance is a much greater problem than recognized by contemporary medicine.
Many women in their mid thirties begin to have anovulatory (nonovulating) cycles. As they approach the decade before
menopause, they are producing much less progesterone than expected, but still producing normal (or more) estrogen.
They retain water and salt, their breast swell and become fibrocystic, they gain weight (especially around the
hips and torso), they become depressed and lose sex drive, their bone suffer mineral loss, and they develop fibroids.
All are signs of estrogen dominance.
When sufficient hormone is replaced, uterine fibroid tumors
( myomas ) no longer grow in size (they generally decrease in size) and can be kept from growing until menopause,
after which they will atrophy. This is the effect of reversing estrogen dominance."
Fibroids are tumors that appear in the uterus. Fibroids affect many
women and this condition is usually spawned from hormone imbalances.
Estrogen is the key culprit for stimulating the growth of fibroids.
There are different types of fibroids and are defined as follows.
- Subserous Fibroids-grow on the outer wall of the uterus. This specific type of fibroid commonly grows during menstrual periods.
- Submucosal
Fibroids - they grow inside the uterine cavity. A woman’s body begins
to cramp because the fibroid grows where a baby would be birthed and so
the body tries to birth it.
- Intramural Fibroid-grow inside the uterine wall and mimics the symptoms of subserous and submucosal fibroids.
- Pedunculated Fibroids-These mimic the ovarian tumors.
Other risk factors include a high-fat diet, alcohol
consumption, B-vitamin deficiency, stress and excess weight. But often,
fibroids are due to too much of a potentially carcinogenic form of
estrogen. While estrogen's ability to stimulate cell growth is great
for skin and hair, it can be a major problem when it comes to uterine
tissue.
Fibroids are easiest to treat when
they are small, but they are also very hard to detect at this
stage—tiny fibroids rarely produce any symptoms. Many women are not
aware that they even have them. As fibroids grow larger, however, they
cause menstrual bleeding to increase, and they become quite painful,
especially during menstruation.
Eventually, they can press on your surrounding organs, especially the
bladder and kidneys, and this sometimes causes such severe symptoms
that removal is the only option. Some surgeons, however, are able to
remove only the fibroids and keep the uterus intact, but this does not
solve the problem. About half of the women who keep their uteruses find
that their fibroids grow back. Fibroids are responsible for about
one-third of all hysterectomies.
Because
fibroids normally shrink during menopause (although taking estrogen may
reactivate them), some women choose to wait and see if the fibroids go
away by themselves. If you do opt for a hysterectomy, talk to your
surgeon about whether or not you should leave your uterus intact. One way to prevent the return of fibroids—and often to avoid surgery in the first place—is to adopt a natural prevention and treatment plan
using herbs. Women
can eliminate/reduce their fibroids with the use of herbs, so that
they are easier to live with.
Since
fibroids are rarely life-threatening and generally grow slowly, you may
have time to try herbs. You may also be able to speed things along by
using other natural healing methods, especially acupuncture, in your
therapy. I suggest seeking the help of a natural health care
professional who has had success treating fibroids.
Vitex
slows the growth of fibroids and even helps dissolve them by
normalizing hormonal imbalances. As fibroids are dissolved, herbs such
as prickly ash bark, ginger, cleavers, mullein and burdock assist the
lymph and blood systems in eliminating the fibroid tissue. Regular use
of castor oil packs and sitz baths also help to eliminate fibroids,
probably by improving circulation. Castor oil packs should be used at
least three times a week, 30 to 60 minutes a session; sitz baths should
be taken as often as possible, every day if you can manage it.
While you are working on getting rid of your fibroids, you can also take herbs to relieve the symptoms. It is important to keep excessive bleeding, menstrual cramps and anemia
controlled with the appropriate herbs because these problems will slow
the healing process. Herbs that reduce bleeding and strengthen the
uterus include red raspberry and motherwort. It is best to avoid herbs
that stimulate menstrual bleeding, such as don quai, unless a
knowledgeable herbalist includes them in a formula designed for you.
Uterine Fibroid Tea
1 teaspoon each burdock root, cramp bark, motherwort leaves and wild yam rhizome
½ teaspoon each prickly ash bark, cleavers leaves, mullein leaves and ginger rhizome
1 quart water
Combine
herbs and water in a pot and bring to a boil. Lower heat and simmer for
a few minutes. Turn off heat and let sit for about 20 minutes. Strain
and drink at least 2 cups a day. This formula can also be taken as a
tincture or pills, which can be more practical, since you may need to
take it for several months.
Natural Healing Foods
It is important to remember that our bodies
need fat. Even though many people will try and tell you that all fat is
bad, that simply is not true. For hormonal balance we need fat to help
us absorb and store the right vitamins. Vitamins, A, D, E, and K are so
important to our gynecological health. Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids
are extremely important and we need to be sure we get enough in our
diets. The cabbage family such as broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage etc
can metabolize our hormones too. By helping regulate both estrogen and
progesterone hormonal problems, including cancer, can be significantly
reduced. Onions and garlic help our gynecological health because they
are very potent antioxidants. Not only does it prevent fibroids but it
also shrinks them. Nuts and seeds are important to consume for this
reason. They are packed full of vitamins, fatty acids, and help balance
our hormones. Zinc is also included in nuts and seeds and promotes
production of testosterone which regulates our hormones. Just a few
fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts/seeds, animal proteins, and
legumes that we need to help our body fight off these painful and
sometime cancerous fibroids are listed below. (All are hormone
balancing foods) To conclude: make
sure you also take a vitamin supplement that is high in B vitamins.
Taking a vitamin supplement will insure absorption when eating hormone
balancing foods. This is yet another reason that seeing your
gynecologist every year is a good idea.
